Whale watching Reykjavik, Iceland

We chose to sail on whale watching with Elding.

It was a beautiful day.....and we could see a long way. Not much wind either, exept when we sailed out of the harbour. But it got much better when we came out to the open sea.

Northern Fulmar

 Northern Gannet

We first came across a lot of birds who where diving and enjoying some fish.

Mink whale
Then we came across a single mink whale, that swimmed acround the boat. It wasn`t easy to take pictures, since he/she came up for a second. And then dived again, and since they can hold their breath for 25 min. we had not a clue where he/she would come up to the surface again.

On the way back to Reykjavik we enjoyed the beautiful view.

Kerid crater, Iceland

Kerid is a volcanic crater lake located in the Grimsnes area in the south Iceland.

The caldera, like the other volcanic rock in the area, is composed of red (rather than black) volcanic rock.

The lake is fairly shallow 7-14 meters (depending on rainfall and other factors ), but due to minerals from the soil, is an opaque and strikinly vivid aquamarine.

The pictures I have taken here, does not make this scenery any justice. I was absolutely stunning and with the scenery outside of the crater, it almost felt like we where on another planet :-) If it hadn`been for the road behind us, that is ;-) hehe

Reykjavik, Iceland - okt. 2012

Reykjavik is by far the largest community in Iceland. Including the neighbouring towns, the area has 60% of the Iceland`s population of total 300 000 people.

The town is a mix of new and old buildings......at first it looked kind of messy and boring.......

but after looking a bit closer.....and the way they had used colour.....don`t forget with the mountains as backdrop... Reykjavik is a very charming town, where you have tourist shops and Icelandic creativity working hand in hand.....

But....well somethimes the colours do get a bit much.. ;-)

Hallgrimskirkja

The Harpa consert & conference hall
And some colours came after dark :-)

I wonder what happened here ;-) I did not dare to find out ;-) hehe

I wonder if this is the latest design ;-)

Well if you put your shoes out here, I don`t think anyone would steal them ;-)
You could also find some fun details if you looked closely ;-)

Hot dog stand at the harbour

Fish with baced potatoes

Hot chocolate cake with cream and ice....yummy
We where looking for places to eat, and where surprised  that among the 5 best places to eat there was a hot dog stand down by the harbour......so of course we had too try it out....and yes they tasted very good.

But the best food we got in Reykjavik was at a beef house ( or rather the best beef we ever had anywhere ), but the fish was exellent to.
So if you ever are going too Reykjavik you have too try Hereford Steak House.. :-)

Balke church in Norway, winter 2012

Balke church lies in Skreia, Østre Toten in Norway. It was buildt in ca.1170. The church has traces of roman, normandie and early goth. You can see it from far away since it is buildt on a hill. So the wiew is absolutely stunning.
Balke is a peaceful place, even thought there is a farm close by. Because it is a little bit of the main road, but there are signs. So it is quite easy too find.
